BeamTwinDragons

about

the hornet is a D1 style solar engine BEAM art project that i made in 2001 when elizabeth and i lived in Lewiston, ME the first time. I was an intern at a GE factory in Auburn, ME and gathered some scrap parts for this project. shhhhh! don't tell them, I probably wasn't supposed to take them. You'll notice the lovely stamped parts make up the legs of this hornet. Short of the wings which are purely aesthtetic, the entire creature is made of functional parts. That is to say, the electronics that make the D1 style solar engine also make the physical body of the hornet.

the hornet and praying mantis were made at the same time and are the exact same circuit. however as you can tell they are very different creatures.

action

here's a short low res video of the hornet in action.
